DVASE Women in Structural Engineering

About DVASE Women in Structural Engineering (WiSE) Committee

DVASE WiSE intends to foster greater success and further the interest of women structural engineers by promoting networking events, endorsing outreach, and building mentoring relationships.

WiSE is open to anyone that is interested in supporting and retaining women in the structural engineering industry. You do not have to be a member of DVASE (or a woman for that matter) to participate with WiSE. We encourage you to invite your colleagues, classmates, and anyone you think would benefit from participating with this committee.

Highlights from Recent Events

WiSE and Women in Architecture (WIA) joined up for a speed mentoring event on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, located at the Center for Architecture and Design at 1218 Arch St Philadelphia. We combed the city and found an impressive diverse group of magnificent women mentors including several architects, planners, and engineers. The night was full of interesting conversation and making life long connections.

Structural engineers from both WiSE & YMG committees toured the Crescent Iron Works Facility on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, located at 4901 Grays Avenue in Philadelphia.

WiSE celebrated the end of Engineers Week by viewing the movie, "Dream Big: Engineering Our World" at the Franklin Institute on Saturday, February 23, 2019. After the movie, we headed to City Tap Logan Square for lunch.

WiSE had their first book club discussion of Dark Places by Gillian Flynn on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, 5:30PM at Misconduct Tavern. Participants voted on the selection of the next book. Circe by Madeline Miller.

WiSE had their first building construction tour at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in November 2018. The PMA's transformative Core Project is the second phase of the Facilities Master Plan, creating new public space within the existing footprint and add 23,000 SF of gallery space. WiSE members had a behind the scenes tour of construction currently underway and access to a tunnel that has been closed to the public since the 1950's. We want to thank Keast :& Hood and Capital Project Engineer, Charles Williams, for offering this tour to our WiSE members.

In September 2018, Keen kicked off with a social meet and greet at Keen restaurant. WiSE members met for the first time.
