INTRODUCTION ON DESIGN OF POST-TENSIONED CONCRETE

The presentation will focus on the design and construction of post-tensioned (PT) concrete for commercial building applications.  The presentation will discuss an introduction to PT concrete, benefits of using PT concrete in lieu of conventional reinforced concrete and the design PT members.  Different types of PT tendons, controlling concrete stresses and load balancing as a design tool will also be discussed.

About Our Speaker:  Clyde Ellis is the Branch Manager for VSL's Washington, D.C. Branch.  Ellis has been with VSL 12 years and has worked in many areas involving post-tensioning systems – including new bridge construction, strengthening and repairs, special lifting projects, bridge inspection and building construction.  Ellis holds degrees in Architectural Engineering and Civil Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University and Lehigh University, respectively.  He is a voting member of PTI DC-35 Prestressed Rock & Soil Anchor Committee and past president of the National Capitol Chapter of ACI.
