THE SPRING STREET SALT SHED
Presented By: Anthony H. LoCicero III, P.E., LEED, AP, Project Manager, Burns Engineering
The Spring Street Salt Shed, a unique structure shaped like an enormous salt crystal, elevates the gritty character of its industrial operations and blends naturally into the gentrified residential neighborhood. Numerous technical and construction challenges, including the structure's close proximity to the Holland Tunnel, resulted in a rock solid concrete composition to ensure it was able to withstand the facility's rigorous operations.
ALCON JCM FACILITY RENOVATION
Presented by: Jonathan Memmel, P.E., Lead Project Structural Engineer and Project Manager, EwingCole and Bryan Crawford, P.E., Project Structural Engineering, EwingCole
The renovation of the existing Alcon JCM Facility in Georgia, for the addition of a new contact lens manufacturing line, while maintaining a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week operation on the floor below was the primary goal of this project. The supported floor is a robust structural system that could accommodate the loading, but with spans of 50 feet, the vibrational response was a concern. The intent of the project was to integrate structural steel trusses constructed above the floor using the existing beams as bottom chord members and integrating this steel within a raised access floor system that would support the equipment and be coordinated with the utilities throughout.
About Our Speakers: Anthony H. LoCicero III, P.E., LEED AP, is a Project Manager at Burns Engineering, serving infrastructure and industrial client's like New York City's Department of Sanitation (DSNY). He holds a bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering from Drexel University and a master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Anthony has taught courses on Materials and Structural Behavior as an Adjunct Assistant Professor for Drexel University, and is currently serving as the President of the College of Engineering Alumni Association. Additionally, Anthony is a high school mentor for Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia.
Jonathan Memmel, P.E., is a Lead Project Structural Engineer and Project Manager at EwingCole. He holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Lafayette College and a Master's degree in Structural Engineering from Villanova University. He has over 16 years of experience in structural engineering and is the current Vice President of the Structural Engineers Association of PA and a past president of DVASE.
Bryan Crawford, P.E., is a Project Structural Engineer at EwingCole. He holds an Architectural Engineering degree from Drexel University and a Master's Degree in Structural Engineering from Villanova University.
