Two Award Winning Project Presentations from DVASE 2023
Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal A

The new Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport replaces the existing Terminal A with a new 1-million-square-foot, 33-gate domestic terminal. The new steel and glass building is light and modern with soaring floor-to-ceiling windows that offer abundant natural light. In addition to the terminal building, the project includes 1,000 feet of new bridge structures approaching the departures level, a 660-foot-long pedestrian bridge connecting the terminal to a new consolidated rental car facility, and 1.5 million square feet of new concrete airfield paving. Opened in January 2023, the $2.7 billion project is the largest design-build infrastructure project in New Jersey state history.
Dorrance H. Hamilton Garage

As part of a comprehensive parking structure repair project, Pennoni performed a detailed site investigation and material testing that uncovered extensive damage to the two-level subgrade parking structure at Thomas Jefferson University’s (TJU) Hamilton building. The existing structure is a combined precast concrete form/cast-in-place structural system.
Working closely with the TJU facilities team and the general contractor, Pullman, Pennoni designed and documented required repairs and developed a replacement plan to extend the service life of the structure.
About Our Speakers:
James J. Cardillo, PE, Jim has more than 40 years of experience in the structural design of various types of building structures. For the past 15 years he has been a Vice President and the Chief Structural Engineer for STV’s Buildings Division. Currently he is responsible for the management of STV’s s structural group in Douglassville, Philadelphia, Virginia Beach, Baltimore and Washington DC.
Michael Ferraioli, PE, is a Structural Project Engineer with experience working with architects, contractors, and building developers. Skilled in structural engineering, RAM Structural Systems and Elements, and autoCAD, among other structural analysis and design software. Bachelor of Science (BS) in Architectural Engineering from Drexel University with a structural concentration. Professionally licensed in the state of New Jersey. Never underestimate the importance of building great professional relationships.
